I Believe

In this country I do believe that the majority of us feel compassion and empathy. I believe we strive to reach the country’s vision of “a better Union”.

It’s a work in progress

The New Colossus

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,

With conquering limbs astride from land to land;

Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand

A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame is the imprisoned lightning, and her name

Mother of Exiles.

From her beacon-hand Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command

The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.

“Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she

With silent lips.

“Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.

Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,

I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

  1. My grandparents families immigrated from Europe, coming thru Ellis Island.

    I live in Texas, and admonish our Government when they give the number of illegal immigrants estimate of 11,000,000. Our State, alone, has at least that number.

    I believe in a path to Citizenship, but it must be voted upon by the legal occupants of our country and not dictated by our Government. My husband and I are at retirement age, but retirement is out of the picture. Our medical insurance premiums have tripled this past year. We receive less care, but at a higher price.

    1. We need a comprehensive policy. Sadly in our time, in our country, we can only agree on hate and fear. I think retirement is out of the question for most of us. As we polarize ourselves we have only extreme options; either way over here or way over there. I hope we’ll eventually get back to operating somewhere in the middle and not do too much damage before we get there.
